Our Food Center volunteer force works together as an amazing team -- receiving food and stocking the shelves on Monday, beginning delivery distributions on Tuesday, and helping with client shopping on Wednesdays. You are welcome to join this servant community. You will begin by matching your interest and skills with our job descriptions; there is a place for you! We start volunteer service with a brief orientation session where you become acquainted with the Food Center and the neighborhood and where you hear our heart for who we are and how we serve as Tulakes Neighborhood Ministries. You will then be paired with an experienced fellow volunteer community member and receive training. Most folks leave a Food Center shift saying it was good work and a joy to be together!
Steps toward volunteering:
1) Complete application and background check (return to knantze@bethanynaz.org)
2) Read PowerPoint orientation, food safety, and civil rights training
3) Safe Kids certification (video link will be sent once a background check has been completed)
4) Download GroupMe or join the mailing list to receive weekly SignUp Genius to begin volunteer shifts
5) Sign up and receive your Tulakes swag
Currently, we have four opportunities to volunteer:
Monday: 9:00 am-10:30 am, unloading food from RFBO truck, stocking shelves
Wednesday: 9:25 am-12:00 pm, 11:45 am-2:15 pm, 5:10 pm-6:45 pm. All three shifts include the same volunteer positions. *You will need to sign up on the Wufoo link so that we can ensure that all of our positions are covered. This helps ensure that our shifts run smoothly.
*Reception: Greet clients, help them get signed up on the sign-in sheet, and send them back the intake on the computer in the order they signed up.
*Intake: Enter clients on the computer.
*Shopper Helper: Using the given shopping list, assist clients in shopping.
*Bagger: Bag client’s groceries.
*Runner: Help clients to their car and unload groceries.
*Pre-box: Using the given shopping list, box groceries for clients that prefer not to shop.
In the fall of 2023, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma featured our pantry at their fundraiser luncheon. The link below is the video for you to see and hear Ashley's story (one of our regular shoppers at the Food Center).
