Our Story
Tulakes Community Church
- 2014: Pastor Thaddeus held a Pantry Bible Study, the beginning of Tulakes Community Church.
- August 2016: Held worship in Putnam City Tulakes Elementary School.
- May 2017: Due to Putnam City building renovations, moved the church to the BFC Floyd Center.
- July 2019: Tulakes Elementary Invited the church back to worship in the neighborhood.
- March 2020: With the pandemic, the school and church closed; church went live on Facebook.
- June 2020: Reopened worship services in the BFC Floyd Center; attendance still strong.
Food Center
- December 2019: Operations of the old ROC branch pantry were transferred to become the Tulakes Pantry.
- April 2020: Pandemic needs rose exponentially. Opened a new Grocery Outpost in the vacant liquor store next door; we rallied donations and volunteers.
- July 2020: Converted the pantry into a Food Center -- a mini self-serve food experience, located in the former liquor store.
- August 2020: With help from the Life.Church NW men’s ministry team, and funds from the BFC Helping Hands Fund, the former pantry site was converted into a multipurpose work space.
Clinic
- February 2019: God called Kim Bryan through a “Say Yes!” sermon series.
- March 2019: Pursued a relationship with the Open Arms Clinic (formerly Deaconess Hospital clinic.)
- August 2019: Renovated unused pantry space and established an independent free clinic, with generous gifts and support from Butterfield.
- March 2020: Opening day for the free clinic, immediately closed by Covid.
- May 2020: Cautiously reopened one day a week.
- December 2021: Received Medicaid certification.
